Anyone here live in the Fukuoka/Hakata area of Kyushu ? I ask as I'm probably going to be spening about three weeks there in the near future on a course and had some questions.

I was wondering where I can get detailed maps of the city and area, online doesn't seem to be much help.

Also what are the chances of me being able to use my western credit cards there or should I just bring lots of cash and travellers cheques with me.

You can use credit cards there many places take visa IF they accept credit cards. I would suggest bringing cash and only use your card if the place accepts it. This way you don't spend up too much cash. I use all cash when in fukuoka and cards when places except cards.

Anyway, I believe you could also get a street map in English at the other information centres at the major train stations(Hakata St., for instance) or Fukuoka Airport, but I'm not 100% positive on that...

Fukuoka airport does have maps available. Probably tenjin would have the most map kiosk available as Cue-san pointed out.

I think that there is a map in a shop handling a foreign book.

In Kinokuniya, there are some stores in Fukuoka.

There is it in the sixth floor of immediate Tenjin Core nearby from subway Tenjin station
