friendship rings

In Japan, if you have a girlfriend is it common to give her a ring to wear to symbolize your commitment to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend? Or is the only ring the girl want the engagement ring?

I think, yes, it is common that a guy gives a ring to his girlfriend. The other way isn't really common, I think, though.

Sima. "They" probably like many different things depending on the person. Get to know the person enough, see what they tend to like, maybe the person hates rings but likes bracelets or necklaces.

First, get beyond the "They" reference. Then you will know what to get.

Like Emoni said, it might just be the people I know. Necklaces and bracelets are ok, rings have a different meaning attached to them.

Yeah, I would vote for bracelets or necklaces...
Rings have another meaning, and should only be given after some time. (I am a gal).

But as the previous posts suggest, find it out for yourself by knowing your special girl's tastes; likes and dislikes...

hmm......next time, I will give her a ring first and wait for her reaction. Then, i will give her bracelets and wait for her reaction. Method of trial and error ^^

lol. If you give the ring make sure it fits the size of her ring finger! I gave a girl a ring once and she had to wear it on her thumb because it was too big for her!! lol I'll never do that again.(i'll make sure it's her size)

lolz, seriously. Because one of my good friends is a japanese girl. I don't want to send some "crazy American gift". Well, I may have to ask her directly.....but are you sure a friendship ring will make her happy?

Send something american and personal, rings are hardly either.

I think part of the reason men like to give girlfriends a ring is to send other men the message that she is taken and some women don't like all the unwelcome attention from men trying to pick up single women...usually a ring on a woman's left ring finger will avoid many unwanted pick up attempts.

I'm not sure how it is in Japan but single men in the U.S. can be vultures around a single woman that shows no indication of being attached to someone.
