Hi everyone.
Can you answer this question?. What does it mean としてand ところ together?. I know the meaning of each one but I can't figure out the meaning when they are combined. I was reading 星の王子さま and saw this

。。。動物を呑み込もうとしてところの絵だった。

Thanks for your help.

Have you met volitional (呑み込もう) + とする yet? It means "to attempt". ところ here references a time "the point when", rather than a place.

Are you sure that's a correct transcription? I would expect ~としているところ or something here...

Hi, yes, it´s the correct transcription. I was expecting the same, but I have been seeking this form and I can't find it yet.

It really doesn't make any sense to me grammatically if that's the case. Do you have an original, printed copy? We've had the case here before that someone turned out to be working off a digitised version with errors in. I found a list of comparative translations which includes:

それはボアという大きなヘビが動物を呑み込もうとしているところの絵だった。
(池澤夏樹訳)

Hi, yes, it´s the correct transcription. I was expecting the same, but I have been seeking this form and I can't find it yet.

Yes, it's an original printed copy. When I get home, I'll take a photo. Do you know if there are more errors?
