I recently heard a wild rumor, that Ford is lying in wait, and getting ready to embark on a wild new marketing scheme, capitalizing on the US unemployment rate. (I have a close relative who is in a high up executive position at Ford Motor Company.)
After GM and Chrysler finish their collapse, and their empty factories, equipment, engineers, employees, and dealerships are up for sale for pennies on the dollar.
Ford is then going to offer unemployed and underemployed americans a wild new deal.
They will be sold a new (marked up) Ford vehicle regardless of their employment or credit history.
They will be given pennies on the dollar for their trade-ins...HOWEVER, they will also be given a union scale wage job with Ford, if they need or want one to pay for their car.
Ford plans to sell ALL it's vehicles in one day with this marketing plan , and anticipates orders for millions more.
They plan to purchase and use GM's and Chrysler's assets to supply the demand they anticipate for their cars.
How will ANY other automaker be able to compete with them when they do this?
This is all the details I have, has anyone heard anything about this?

So, you heard this wild rumor from your close relative who is in a high up executive position at Ford Motor Company? Or did you hear this wild rumor from someone else, and you happen to have a relative who is in a high up executive position at Ford Motor Company? If the former is the case, is s/he a reliable source of informations regarding big secret corporate strategies? If the latter, ask your relative.

Oh, and I think you should expand on the effect this would have on the JAPANESE economy.

It is going to have a HUGE effect on Japan's economy! Word is that every single parts of the cars will be entirely made in the US, by american workers, with american raw materials.
Any Japanese or foreign automaker innovation or success, will be purchased, studied, and improved upon by american workers before it is released on our cars. Kinda like the whole zero/hellcat thing in the 40's, except it will be a never ending process.
We are not going to imitate Japan or ANY other nation, we are going to innovate and regain our lead. If we have to copy a foreign invention, instead of improve upon it, to compete with it, we simply won't offer it.
Japan makes damn good cars that practically sell themselves right now, however, Japanese automakers cannot offer their millions of under and unemployed american customer base, JOBS, without giving up their own in the process.
Look for this to be posted on bunch of forums very shortly, Ford is getting ready to drop this bomb, and they want to get an idea what the american publics' reaction is going to be, before they go forward with this.
I've already been promised a GOOD job with them too.
Yeehaw!

Hilarious.

I love it. Keep writing these items. Millions will believe you, I am sure.

PS...on the reality side, I think Ford did outsell Toyota for the first time in a decade, for one month!

And their new hybrid Fusion I believe is alleged to get 41 mpg city.

But didn't Toyota Prius come out with some astronomically high and efficient new mpg numbers?

And they just announced rehiring 3000 layed off workers in Michigan.

On my side, I congratulate Ford for giving American car manufacturers SOME credibility left for ingenuity, efficiency, and salesmanship.

Otherwise, where do you get your information? Saturday Night Live?

Keep posting. :beer1:

Thanks. I wish I could tell you where I recieve my information, but if I did, I would not get it anymore, and would be just as much in the dark as you are.

I kinda like, and want to stay in this loop.

Wouldn't you?

And if I'm not mistaken, Ford purchased their hybrid technology directly from Toyota at a huge price.

Whether this is true or not I do not know and cannot say without further research, but I cannot believe that die hard Toyota owners will suddenly up and leave Toyota to purchase a Ford regardless of price as 95% of Toyota owners have never had their car in a shop for ANY REASON save for an oil change and most have driven their Toyotas over 200,000 miles without so much as a failure of any part. I can count myself as one of those.

My one question is where are these million plus Ford buyers going to get the money to pay for their vehicles when the majority are broke and living paycheck to paycheck and most don't even know if the will have a job next month? Is Ford going to hire one million purchasers of their vehicles at overpaid union wages which is the main reason why GM and Chrysler are failing? Or could it be that the Obama stimulus package will pay for and cover any defaults. Which, in the long run, means us taxpayers will pay for it.

And besides, isn't the reason why anyone was give a housing loan regardless of credit history the main reason we are in the mess we are in? Doesn't make any sense to me. If it happens I believe it will be the downfall of Ford also in the short run. It makes absolutely no business or economic sense whatsoever.

Quite ludicrous if you ask me.

Have you ever tried to pick up chicks your 10 year old, 300,000 mile, never any problems, Toyota?

Do you realize that if you engineer a engine to last for 300 K and ten years, and do not engineer the rest of the vehicle to do the same, you end up with piece of great running, problem free, ugly and outdated piece of old junk?

The housing and credit crisis would not have occured, if all americans jobs and wages had been protected, and not exported.

It's hard to pay your bills, or buy your boss's product if he does not pay you enough to do so, or you lose your job.

You cannot achieve long term properity by selling off everything you own, only short -term.

But, please keep buying toyotas and exporting your money, and check and let me know how it working out for you. Prove me wrong.

Me, junk or not, I'd rather have a job that allows me to be able to afford a new Mustang GT every three years when the warranty runs out, than be broke, and living in my 10 year old Toyota with 3,000,000,000 on it.

Just sayin.

I personally know how to design an engine that would probably be indestructable, and would last forever. Problem is, I cannot design a car that updates it's looks and stays in style and popular as long as the engine will run.

To even attempt it, is a stupid waste of engineering talent and resources. A classic example of over-engineering.

I would probably have to sell the cars with the drivetrain, and after the body gets old, just sell them new updated bodies to put their old drivtrain in. That is the closest I could come right now, of meeting a goal like that.

If someone else can, fine.

I will buy one, and bust my *** trying to improve it.

If I cannot, I guess I will just have to buy and keep theirs.

If this plan works as plannned.

The only american that will be living in poverty, will be doing so by choice.

And if it is successful and profitable as planned, look for other american manufacturers to quickly follow suit.

And suddenly your leaking of supposed secret corporate plans turns into a pitch for your own line of vehicles? Either way, you're proposing to save the American economy by turning the unemployed into car manufacturers. Perhaps seeing automobiles as the end-all solution to our financial and transportation woes is what need adjustment, not just your adherence to the necessity of designed obsolescence and lust for new new new cars.

That's a bit of a superficial statement.

The housing and credit crisis would not have occured, if all americans jobs and wages had been protected, and not exported.

You can't pin it on just one reason. How about banks giving out bad housing loans?

It's hard to pay your bills, or buy your boss's product if he does not pay you enough to do so, or you lose your job.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure unions have seriously hurt the auto industry. A friend told me that their uncle (yes, a friend of a friend of a friend...) earns around $37 an hour at his auto factory job and only has to work four days a week. I worked in a car parts factory and nothing I did warranted earning $37 an hour. It's a tough life with tough pay but there will always be haves and have-nots.

Please don't, I've seen way too many of those on the road nowadays lol. By the way, nice to see a fellow Hoosier!

Air America, let me leave you with an observation that I thank you for your passion for American cars, in great tribute to the hundreds of thousands of wonderful auto workers of the present and past, who believed they were building the best cars ever.

Except in so few, fabulous exceptions (Jeep, Corvette, Mustang, Ford 150 pickup truck), the market left them behind. The vision was lost somewhere, and I wish the automakers had your passion 10 years ago. And do the majority of Americans buy specialty cars for specialty appeal, or mass market cars with wide appeal?

Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, they have to re-invent themselves all the time, and they have major, major brand loyalty and almost a cult following for their products. Find me a 20 year old Honda that hits the "for sale" advertisements... almost never happens, all you have to do is hang a sign in the window, and it sells itself.

I want so sincerely, to see visionary products from American manufacturers, like Japanese manufacturers have.

Can it happen, yes, that is what makes America great!!! Will it happen?

Time will tell. Don't lose the passion.

Same.

I don't see any prob with paying line workers $37 an hour for a 8/40 with the profits they expect to see.

Plus they can go to school and later try engineering or designing and make much more.

Hell we are already used to working an eight hour shift, and going to college at the same time anyway.

Hard and good workers need to paid a decent wage, just like smart workers.

I would pay someone $37 an hour with no issues, to work that boring *** line for me.

Cause I will be making much more.

If you build a bulletproof drivetrain that runs forever, without a body that morphes into the latest style, and updates itself with the lastest innovations and features...what are you really accomplishing?

Stagnation?

What part ya from?

Prototype, Slaymaster88

Air America...
Dearborn called me on the phone, told me to rush the new concept car to their office.
I will call it the "Retro Slaymaster 88", definitely will "pick up chicks", but tough in the back seat for "wiggle room" and the boom box.

What do you think? Edgy? Bold. Macho, no doubt!!!

I know what you mean when you say boring. I just don't think putting a bumper on a car warrants $37 an hour. It requires virtually no effort, training, and or skill.

You've accomplished a reliable car that doesn't necessarily need to be updated.

ever ridden in a '93 toyota and then a '93 ford? There is your answer right there.

An excellent question...

Numark... can I guess you just asked the 65 million dollar question, highlighting the difference between American cars which used to sell, and Japanese cars which keep selling more and more and more.

Americans used to care very much about comfort. So they would pay a lot more for a plush ride.

Japanese cars aimed then and now, not at plush rides, but driving performance for the mass lower-price buyers, gas mileage efficiency, durability, and value down the road.

And Americans slowly gave up on the big, plush, more expensive rides, in favor of practicality of their pocketbooks, mpg efficiency, over the life of the car.

If I could ask, meaning only a scientific question without disrespect, what American person today cares one I-O-TA about what you ask?
Does Ford say today... we have comfortable rides, buy us for the comfortable ride?

Yours is an incredible spotlight on American car manufacturer's thinking, and they lately never understood the answer to the primary question... "Why are Americans buying new cars?"

Because it gives them plush rides? No.

Where is all the money we have saved importing and driving cheaper cars?

The US is broke.

So where did all that money go?
