Find adress from phonenumber?

Hi,

I have the cell & home-number to a friend in Japan, and I want to send a gift to her for her birthday, but I dont have the adress. Is it possible to lookup the adress in any way?

You could just say your sending her something else and then send the present instead.

If someone call me and ask for my adress I would give it, but my first question would be, why do you need my adress? And if my birthday is in 2 weeks I would understand why and the suprise would be ruined.

But it seems as this is the only solution, its really strange as most countries have whitepages and/or the possibility to reverse phonenumber check to get the adress, but in some cases Japan seems to be 10 years after in development.

Another suggestion would be to contact someone who knows her address like another friend or a family member, but I'm guessing you don't know anyone like that.

I don't remember exactly, but I've heard somewhere that finding addresses from phone numbers has been deliberately omitted from telephone directory service by NTT and other carriers. It's not a matter of lack of ability on the part of these carriers.

The reasons I don't remember, but the privacy issue involved is certainly a big reason today.

When I searched Japanese webpages for an answer, someone suggested, "Hire a detective!"

Would it be on that person's Facebook, Twitter, or MyShare account or blog or something that you can access? Or the return address on a Xmas or New Year's or birthday card you got?
