Environmenet Forum and Animal Rights Forums needed

In addition, please make subforum links in the European Forum
available from the main page.. as you have done with other fora

I wish to register a hearty opposition to the further balkanization of JREF. No Environment Forum or Animal Rights Forum, please. (Unless there are some animals who wish to participate, of course).

I think that Animal Rights can be discussed sufficiently without its own forum.

The EU forum technically belongs to a different web site maintained by the same owners who are using the membership database and domain of this (the original) JREF forum. Regardless, I hope you could find what you were looking for.

Id say neither should get there own section.. but maybe a subforum. the 1 atleast. If it doesnt work then no loss just take it out. If it does work just think it might bring in a new category of people to jref.

I think it would be handy to have a subsection about "Enviroment Concerns", but not animal rights, as there are plenty of people that are interested in animal rights but do not like to be labelled as animal rights activists or welfarists or whatever. In an enviromental concerns section you could put all the global warming, animal morality issues and wildlife and ecosystem related stuff etc- i think there are plenty of threads done every week on these sorts of topics to justify their own section?

I think an Environmental forum is a good idea. It is definitely an important topic...much more important than much of the other topics bounced about here on a daily basis. I think that giving it a seperate listing is better than having the topics become buried in one of the other sections...but that's just my two cents. (I may be biased though since it is my college major!)

How did the OP's post count drop from 31 to 24?

I agree. Unless the subjects pertain to Japan I'd prefer to leave such issues alone. We hear enough of this outside of this forum anyway. It becomes a bore after a while.

I also agree full-heartedly. This place is already bloated enough as it is.

Yeah, I think so too. Also, the addtion of new fora to fit the already existing threads that were a bit off topic for the already existing fora has led to only a flood more of those posts. For example, look at the "Love & Relationship Advice" forum. Before that existed, there were a few people who would post love related questions in Chit-Chat. After it came about, people flocked there to ask all sorts of questions about the topic. I'd rather not encourage more of the environment/animal rights posts, because I don't believe it to be within the scope of this forum. If you want to talk about those issues, go find a forum that is designed to talk about those issues. As Mikawa said, the place is already bloated enough.

I think that a trimming of certain under-used subforums is in order, rather than adding to the long list of rarely-frequented threads

Joined yesterday and already making demands...oh boy ! I'm against it, this is a forum about Japan, not a Animal rights discussion board!

I second Rocklee.
I think it can be talked about under 'all things Japanese' or the news/politics/economics section if it relates to Japan, and if not, it fits under 'serious discussion'.
I mean, if you had a section for everything that people are interested in, it would stop being a forum about Japan and just become... something else.
The Chit Chat and Serious Discussion forums serve a good purpose because they allow the members of the forum to get to know each other and their views better and make a good spirit of community, but they aren't the main purpose of the board.

Some of his posts got deleted ;-)

That has already happened.

Hmmm, I beg to differ... I think most of the sections are still Japan-related... they are about news issues, cultural stuff, anime/manga/Japanese music, and Japanese language... they are still the biggest sections.

I like that word, Balkanization. I also agree with Mike on this. Opinions and serious discussions are enough for this. We do not get too many Animal right or environmental people to warrant one.

I think suggesting this is ridiculous. How can someone, who has been here a matter of hours, demand something like this?

Get a grip.

My patience is wearing so thin these days...

I have to agree with Mike, Kinsao, Kirei_na_me and Rocklee. These issues can be discussed under the Chit Chat and Serious Discussions.

The whaling forum will have to suffice for this forums share of eco-rants.

Enviromental discussion belongs on another forum dedicated to it.

This in the meanwhile is a forum for japan.

If however it was called "Japanese wildlife, natural beauty, and countryside recreation" then i could go with that.

But it would have to be about japanese enviroment.
