Embarassingly basic question~

Hey Guys, even for me...this is embarassingly basic. I went back to reread some of my old books to consolodate by super basics. And there's something i now realise i'm not to sure of.
When asked "what's your hobby?"/"Oshumi wa nan desu ka?"
If I liked Manga and tennis, would i say....
"Manga o yomu to tennisu o suru desu" or simply "Manga to Tennisu desu"

You would say (Watashi no shumi wa) Manga wo yomu koto to tennisu wo suru koto desu.

or "(Watashi no shumi wa) Manga to tennisu desu"


Isn't it nice to have a choice now between the challenging and embarrassingly easy way. Unfortunately, it only works this way with two hobbies, though

I've been intending to get a better grasp of "koto" for quite some time now.
What would you do if you wanted to say more hobbies then?

Just add it.
Manga wo yomu koto to tennisu wo suru koto to eiga o miru koto desu.

Or you can also use the particle "ya" instead of "to".
Manga ya tennisu ya eiga desu.

Oh, and one more correction

Or you may want to simply drop "to" or "ya" out entirely to increase the naturalness after 3 or more. As in the English way...my hobbies are reading manga, playing tennis, watching movies...etc and whatever others I'm not saying or can't think of right now.

Right. Quite same as English.
Manga, tenisu, eiga, dokusho, sore to ongaku desu.

tari, tari, shimasu is usually used to describe things you've done during the day or in the past....so it would be strange for you to use when listing your hobbies. since they are assumed to be ongoing things.

so just "Shumi wa manga wo yondeiru, tenisu wo shitteiru....etc"

You do not need "tari" for the final action you do in the list.

Your sentence is fine with just a couple of small changes.

This sounds like either you are reading and playing tennis right now or those activities are part of a regular routine (in the case of "yonde iru").

The combination of -te form of verb + iru can be used probably 3-4 different ways but none in particular give the implication of "so forth," "so on" or "such and such." To stress the sequence as examples of my hobbies, not necessarily an exhaustive listing, are the functions of connectors like "ya, toka, nado, tari,tari." etc...

I have to disagree with the above poster.

In 1., "desu" should not be in the most basic structure. You can say "hokkaido wa utsukushii", without the copula and it would still be a 100%legitimate Japanese sentence. In other words, the copula is optional when B is an i-adjective. Depending on what B is, the copula in this case may or may not be optional. ie.:

1. A wa B (desu)

In 2., one does not necessarily need "B wo" in the most basic structure. The verb could be an intransitive verb, in which case there would be no (B wo). ie.:

2. A wa (B wo) verb. [A verb (B)]
