Earning money to visit japan

I posted this on coin forums as it's more directed there but it has a bunch of other stuff that I wrote too. So far, people have told me to get a college degree in case the coin market falters that way I can still have a job. Also, with a BA or BS I can teach english in japan. I understand it can be in anything, so that makes it better. For my job, I want to be a pilot. I've researched on what it takes to become a commercial pilot and it's VERY expensive and VERY hard (at least according to howstuffworks.com). I have NO IDEA on what it takes to become a helicopter pilot and I don't know where to go to find out. If I were to sell my gold coins I would have more than enough money to visit japan. Part of the problem is figuring out how much it will costs. I plan to stay there for at least 2 days, hopefully a week. I want to visit hiroshima, and see the hiroshima bombing site, as well as the eletronic part of tokyo, ginza, and I want to play pachinko. I've been trying to study japanese but my friends have told me to forget about that and focus on earning money.

I earn SSI income so Im trying to save that. However, I recently got kicked out of my parents house and am waiting now at my parents house to find a group home to live in, in which I have to pay rent, and then an apartment. Once I find a apartment, I'm going to have to spend money like regular people would, on ultilities, shopping, etc. Although I would get help with food, since I'm on disability I can get some food for free. Currently where I live right now at home I have to pay rent but it's not much at all, and I get around $480 each month.

Well right now is a crossroad in my life and i'm interested in alot of things. For a career I want to be a pilot, and I'll be 19 this feburary. I haven't gone to college yet, as I still not sure what I want to study. I'm studying japanese because I'm interested about the cultulre and my goal is to make enough money selling coins to take a trip to japan by myself. I know enough japanese to get around and I'm learning the writing system (katakana and kanji, i know the hiragana).



I'm an illusionist(magician) as well and I recently almost got a job as one at Red Robin. Things didn't turn out right and I didn't get the job. So I mainly do sleight of hand with sponge balls and coins. Right now I'm trying to afford a simple military style ring with a stone on top for a magic trick I bought. Today I went to the mall and tried to get my class ring sized. It costs 150 dollars customized and it wasn't even made of gold; rather valadeum. So it was too brittle and they couldn't size it. So hopefully I can find a proper ring online.



Anyway, I've made a coin friend in real life Dennis who's very experienced in coins (He's around 60) and deals in error coins and gets around by selling coins. He doesn't collect coins anymore. But he is very knowledgeable in the coin market. Right now he says he's looking for NGC Franklin half dollars which do not have the FBL (Full bell line) designation to send to PCGS and hopefully PCGS will assign the Full Bell Designation to the coin. If they do, he's made alot of profit.

I recently and accidently made profit (I think, at least) by cracking my MS63 Saint Gaudens 1908 No Motto coin out of its PCGS h older. I then sent it into NGC, and it graded MS64. People tend to pay more for PCGS slabs than NGC slabs, but it's still worth a few dollars more in MS64 condition since NGC graded it. (I think, can someone confirm this?) I don't plan to sell it, but I do plan on selling a few coins to get money to get started on investing in coins to sell.

Something dennis specializes in is error coins and doubled dies. Before meeting him, I had no idea that there were common DD kennedy halve dollars (silver coins) on the lettering. He finds them rountinely and makes profit on ebay. His ebay name is dandy_dennis.

Today I also met with my grandpa and I was reading a Coins magazine on how to make money with coins. It said on its number one way to make money is to go the bank, look through rolls of nickels, cents, and half dollars. Surprisingly, it said you can still find silver half dollars, and silver war nickels. I also learned that it was a war nickel by the mint mark "S" above monticello.

I'll tell you what,

I never graduated high-school, I lived in a trashed apartment with my mother and two brothers for most of my life and all I wanted to do was go to Japan.

I worked minimum wage jobs, bought a passport, bought a plane ticket, took 900 dollars and said so long to the rest of the world.

When I got to Tokyo, Japan it was a dream come true, the most beautiful women spending the night with me, free dinners, free drinks but you want to know something? All the english teachers and foreigner (like myself) office workers I met HATED working in Japan. So I went returned home, continued working minimum wage jobs and the rest of history.


Now I can go to Japan whenever I want. I think if I would have got a job in Japan, even if it was paying me millions it would make me hate Japan. Just get a normal job, live where you live and set five dollars aside every week, before you know it you'll be able to go to Japan for a week or two.


I could literally go to Tokyo with $100 dollars, it costs 10 dollars to ride the keisei back and forth, and 80 dollars for two weeks of transportation.

GCL, Just save what you can when you can... I know a lot of Japanese travelers, and generally speaking they work and work until they have enough money to travel, and then go off on their excursions.

The difference is that, instead of going to Japan, a rather expensive place, they're going to places like Nepal & South America.

I recommend that you stay in school, regardless, until you get your bachelors degree... Don't get distracted from this. And keep doing anything you are doing regarding your health. Especially anything involving talking to other professionals honestly about the way you are feeling.

You might even qualify for vocational rehabilitation. Phoenix does have a program like this, and it may help pay for your schooling. I don't know all of the requirements but you should look into it. Since you are already on disability, this may be easier than you think.

Save what you can, and if you plan on teaching, even though its not entirely necessary in order to live in Japan, keep practicing your Japanese as the time you do spend in Japan will be rewarded three-fold by knowing the language and being able to interact with people.

If you are interested in the Japanese language, that's all the reason you need to continue studying it. Think of it as something that enriches your life. It may not have all the practical uses that say learning Spanish might, but learning is still a noble cause, learning simply to learn.

I don't know anything about coins, other than the fact that I love to keep coins from places I've been, and places I've never been... I have Euros, as well as coins from England, Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong... To me it's fun to have a little pile of currency from all over the globe as a reminder of my desires to travel again.

If you go to Japan, I recommend three things, A) preparedness, B) that you bring enough money to at least see some sights, and C) that you spend at least a week there. You may not get to go everywhere, but it seems like the things you are interested in are within your grasp.
