Ok, I'll try to be brief.
So I want to apply for MEXT scholarship as an undergraduate student for geolgy related majors.
Should I mainly prepare for physics or biology? Is it sciences A or B?
I'm interested in geological and earth science, biology and earth science, and geo and biosphere science.

Besides, I'll appreciate any info regarding college life and education quality in Japan, or anything you consider relevant, since I've heard a couple bad things about the topic but I wouldn't be so sure.
Thanks!

What bad things have you heard? I work at a science uni with foreign students.

I've heard that undergraduate students take a passive role in their education, and that you can pass the subjects with just an essay at the end of the semester and don't really learn since it's like a break between high school and working. I read somewhere that japanese colleges are hard to get in, but easy to get out.
I insist, it's just something I found on the web and I'm hesitant about its reliability.

From the many years of working here, I am sorry to say that it is all true.

Lots of my students who fail my courses will come to me and ask to do a report (especially those who need the course to graduate that year). Their science teachers will do that for them. Not me. It's a teacher's option. Not sure how it gets factored into GPA, which is only just barely getting started here.
