Doko or izure??

Hey guys,

I alread said but I'm gonna say again: I'm a totally newbie in japanese, so, please, be kind and DO NOT curse me.

I use wakan for a long time, it helps me pretty well but sometimes it has so many words with the same meaning that I get confused a lot.

I want to know what word/kanji/hiragana is used for "where" in a question.

I.E. "Where's the bathroom?"

Wakan showed me 2 "words":
どこ and 孰 and even 何れ for "where".


What's the difference between them and can you give me a sentence with each one?

I dont write many sentences yet I'm still wading through the illogical mess that is verbs but when I've used 'where' I've used doko as thats what my textbook said to use.

Look up a thread of mine a few days ago ''Ano/Are, Kono/Kare, Sono/Sore'' basically in that thread there are 2x 'this', 2x 'that' and 2x 'that over there' and it explains when you use which and not the other. I have a feeling the same rules will govern doko/Izure.

Right. どこ[Doko] is appropreate for "where". 何れ[Izure] can mean "where" in some context, but is more likely "what/which". 孰れ[Izure] is obsolete.

Where's the bathroom?
トイレはどこですか。
Toire wa doko desu ka.

Doko and izure don't really have any overlap in usage. Izure is used to mean "at some point/time". For physical locations, use doko.
