Does anyone like The Carpenters?

I enjoy listening to Karen Carpenter.

I love music from the 1970s. In fact, "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" was a big hit in 1973 by one of my favorite singers, Jim Croce, who died tragically in a plane crash in '73.

I probably am the only one who was already around 20 when the Carpenters were BIG!!

I wasn't into "mainstream" pop/rock music in those days and went for Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes, as well as Steely Dan and Chuck Mangione (anyone remember him?). But I must admit "old age" has arrived for me to seek soothing music. I have the Carpenters & Beatles in my CD collection now.... (I have the "Merry Christmas, Darling" album.)

My favorite song was "Blue Light Yokohama."

Nishikino Akira and Amachi Mari were big back then.

When I was about 4 I sang along to the duet by Hashi Yukio and Yoshinaga Sayuri "Yume no jetto-ki Seven Two Seven." :sing:

Were you here in Japan in those days? I remember "Blue Light Yokohama." Ishida Ayumi-san is a respected actress now. My favorite Hashi Yukio/Yoshinaga Sayuri song was "Itsudemo Yume-o." (I even saw the movie--with my mother.) Rather than "kayoukyoku," I preferred the Japanese "fooku (folk)" songs.

PS I found a site where you can hear Takako Uehara (formerly of a girl group named Speed) singing Ishida Ayumi's "Blue Light Yokohama" and "Anata nara dousuru." Just for your information. (Personally, I like Ishida Ayumi better.)

Yes, I'm furui. I'm an Ossan. Thank you for the link to the song. I, too, like the original "Blue Light Yokohama" by Ishida san better. I was in a Japanese book store in Los Angeles recently and they were playing a version of the "Amairo no kami no Otome" (an old Village Singers song) by a female J-pop singer. I like the original of that one better also.
