Military reservist's "handbook". Not in the sense of "instruction manual", though. It was more like a compact version of their personnel records.

Thanks Mike! I realized that the image was upside down after I sent it. Can you make out the name of the soldier? His last name I know is Uchiyama, but the first name is a bit more difficult. Thank you sooooo much!

It looks to me like 兵馬, which could be read as へいま or ひょうま.
