Do you know an excellent (Free) Japanese-English Offline Dictionary?

Despite of my persistent Googling ... I still can't find what I am looking for..
The results would give me awesome Japanese-English Dictionary but you have to stay online to use it..
Maybe someone here can help me..

It's not free but pretty cheap.

the best dictionary i've ever come across is stardict which will allow you to highlight words and phrases and it will show a popup with the translation - supports all the asian languages and a few european ones.

It is romanji only, but has most of the essential words for beginners.

But I don't suggest you using it as a dictionary because its user interface in dictionary mode is not quite user friendly. I mean, you have to run the text editor first to use its dictionary feature. Use a dictionary program for dictionary.

I use JWPce, it's my favorite way to access EDICT, but I don't know what you are talking about with running the text editor. You just start the program and then open the dictionary. I've found it to be nothing but user friendly.

Wakan
Wakan.manga.cz[URL] allows you to type in the word in Japanese and in English, and comes up with it in the other language.
Wakan allows the Japanese to be displayed in kana or romaji, and always contains another box which shows kana and kanji.

I believe that this is the best free dictionary out there, and possibly better than some of the ones you have to pay for.

Wakan also allows you to put words in your favourites list and then print them off as flashcards!

Wakan seems to be a nice tool, I have to give it a try. It's a dictionary reader though. As a dictionary it mainly uses EDICT, as most of the free tools. Which is great but far from EIJIRO (and the included WAJIRO), which has about 30 - 40 times as many entries.

Wakan also allows you to add words, but it is a troublesome job.... Takes a lonnnng time

Do you just need an online dictionary or you can you also use an offline dict?
There is an Firefox Browser extention which offers Japanese dictionary and a free of charge software called LingoPad which offer Japanses and many other dictionaries for free.

I'd like to have an offline japanese-english dictionary rather than the online ones. Too bad I still haven't tried what they have suggested above..

its a pleasure for me .

You can find the offline software dictionary when you search for "LingoPad 窶 Multilingual Dictionary" at google. You should reach the english part of the website then where you can download the dictionary.

The offline dictionary for firefox you can find on the firefox add-on page and it is called "Moji". You will get a new Sidebar then and you just mark the Japanese character on the webpage and with the right mouse contextmenue you can start the search in the Moji dict.
