Hi everyone, I'm currently studying Japanese, and I'm stuck on a topic I just can't completely understand: omou and omimasu are both used to say "I think", but when is omou used and when omoimasu? is there a difference? are there particular circumstances? Thanks!

What learning materials are you using that introduce both of those and don't offer any explanation of the difference?

Thank you for your answers. I'm using manabou . So this is just a matter of context and who i'm talkng to?

What 丁寧語 (polite language) is for and how to use it is far more basic than any usage of 思う. I can't find anything called "manabou", but it doesn't sound like a good reference. Try GENKI I; it's a good textbook to start out with. You can find it on Amazon etc.
