I have had an old urushi box containing a kamisori and sharpening stone for many years and have never found out much about it. The lid of the box has a crest. Does anybody recognise it... I know there are over 3000...?

The crest is 浮線蝶 Fusenchō Raised Stripe Butterfly, but it's impossible to identify the family only by this information.

The razor was made by Kinboshi Corporation.

Thank you so much. I thought it looked like a cicada perhaps. I assume that this single crest could be used by more than one family of course. Great to know the provenance of the razor also. It's a lovey set which I have shaved with once the razor was honed. Thanks again for this information.

Could kinboshi be a name for the razor rather than the company as the history of Kinboshi Corp is only from 1948 and does not seem to be associated with razors? I noted this in wiki Kinboshi - Wikipedia
I also noted on a 'kanji for razors' site that there was only one entry for Kinboshi and it had the postfix n = name (brand, trademark, master,…)
Thank you

It may not have incorporated until 1945 but they've been around since 1897.

Maybe it was a very small company this whole time and their razor business may have been a short lived venture.
Even today they only have < 100 employees.

As in their home page mdchachi-san linked, Kinboshi was established in March, 1870. The company still exists, and December 1949 is the time the company name changed from the former one 金星 to the present one キンボシ株式会社. Their main products are agricultural machines and implements now. (Incidentally, I checked their home page and confirmed that there's edged tools in their products before I posted my initial reply.)
