How does your country affect your likeliness to be accepted by MEXT for a scholarship?

well, there are very few grantees every year from Europe and much more grantees from Asia

yes, much more from Asia...I remember I found somewhere some site where the countries are named and how many applicants are accepted by MEXT, I can't find that info anymore but I clearly remember not many applicants from Europe...embassy can tell you how many people they can recommend but I'm not sure about Uni recommendation and those numbers...

University recommendation is independent of nationality as long as the country has diplomatic relation with Japan. However, embassy selection is country-based, and you should contact the embassy in your country to inquire about the number.
