Well, I would really, really hope that we could talk without the stinging. An olive branch has been extended, and so I'm quite willing to offer my services.

If I were seen as being trustworthy enough, I'd be willing to be the middle man on the music exchange. . .and the only cost would be that I'd get to hear the tunes before mailing them on. I have contacts with members of the forum beyond just the board, and I'll use that as a witness--if needed.

Then, let me say (although I don't listen to country music so much these days) I do understand both positions--the industry lists S,Y,Z as country music, so it can be called country music while the purist or connoisseur may determine that Y and Z are not due to genre blending or whatever. In this case, to be fair, we should be willing to admit that both claims can be true. (but we could blame the industry too)

Anyway, I hope to follow with the talk about country music, but with a good ole-fashiond down home, country-side neighborly atmosphere. Thanks for listening.....

Most of Ray Charles' tends to run more toward the R&B side than toward blues, though the man did a wonderful job of defying categorization.

Mostly I have Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Tampa Red, Son House, etc etc etc etc.....and a buttload of Lightnin' Hopkins.

Well, I think that I have the trust of Frank D. White. He does send me e-mail from time to time--meaning he has my e-mail and I have his.

To make it easy, however, d3jake san, maybe it would be good to check with Frank to see if he does, in fact, trust me.

Oh, you bet Mike !! The blues is what I do most, and listen to more than anything else (however so slightly) and I'd love to have some of the old stuff. I do have a whole lot of Lightnin' Hopkins, and bits and pieces of others, but anything that you feel would be unusual would greatly be appreciated. (Tampa Red and Son House I'm not familiar with. . . oh and I have no Albert King on hand at the moment...not to be pushy though...hee, hee....)

Now I have played with one guy from Gunma (or was it Niigata?) who played some great slide guitar. He played some country, of course, but we put down some good sounds in the blues--Delta and rock blues. Slide guitars are rare in Japan, I'd think.

I had been under the impression that the slide playing style had developed from some early blues players, but I'm not sure. Does any one know? And is it still used much in country music? Was it used much back in the early Grand Ole Opry (sp?) days?

I worked in the radio industry for 7 years as a DJ and I subscribe that there are truly only 3 types music. Country, Western, and Southern Rock. Anything else is crap (IMO).

I'm interested in this becuase of a couple CDs that my dad has fron "The Tractors", and I know its not a good thing to base it on, they say they're western swing, and from watching "Swing Kids" in school, I really liked the music in that movie too.
