I wonder is the current generation's fascination with Japanese manga and anime, which draws many new folks to Japan, similar to what people felt about what is called the "Old West" in the US, or maybe the desire to see India for folks in GB? You know an updated version of both.

Ok maybe that's too simplistic but I would hope that you get the idea. What are your thoughts and opinions?

Well I don't know. American people are generally "cultureless" and are easily impressed by anything.

I live in Europe, in a country that has history of 13 centuries and anime is just anime to me, a form of cartoon. Eating with sticks is just eating with sticks to me, instead of using a fork and manga is just comic to me -just like Alan Ford.

It is different and it makes it attractive, but now something you adore in general.

But I loved Japan before I even knew what is manga.

Our country officially came into being on July 4th, 1776. Our culture is that of the immigrants who came here and continue to do so. That means we have a bit of British culture, Irish Culture, Japanese culture, Indian culture, Native American culture, Chinese culture, Bosnian culture, and so on. You name a country that had a large group of it's people immigrate to the USA the past few centuries, and chances are their culture is alive and kicking in some shape or size in the USA.

Americans get pissed on all day long, it's saddening to me. I recognize my Irish ancestry and I am proud to be an American. It's actually quite hilarious, as ancestors on my father's side fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and World War I & II. The family on my mother's side came to America during the Great Potato Famine in the 1800s, and later in the early 1900s as well. So let me tell you, when people say Americans are cultureless and easily impressed? I giggle at them and carry on with my life, with minor comments like this. They know not what they do, so why begrudge them?

I think that I will never understand what people mean when they say that American's have no culture. Maybe being an American myself I am lost. However it just seems to me that the phrase somehow implies that due to being American we all are somehow lower on the totem-pole of countries and folks not American just want to thumb their noses at us.

I just think it's hilariously saddening, KirinMan. The culture of America? We do not have one culture. That's the truth of the matter. Their culture is our culture, combined with all the other cultures of the immigrants who came here to make this country their own. If you want to speak on Native American culture? Well, hehe, the Native American people have a very rich and vibrant culture. We have the highest culture per capita in the world(LOL). Eh.
