Hi

I am currently 18 years old with a learner license (yellow L). However I am going to have to leave Australia in about 3 weeks to Japan since I got into a university over there and it is starting early. Here is the question. Will I be able to get a Japanese drivers license by showing them my learners license? I also have a log book which shows that i have driven 120 hours, 20 hours of that is night time driving and 30 hours of that is driving with a actual driving coach.

I have seen some information where you can convert your Australian P1 license (red P) to a Japanese drivers license but im not sure. And plus I am leaving Australia in about 3 weeks and the booking for the driving test to get P1 is always 5 - 6 weeks away full so I dont see a way to get my P1.

Would be great if somebody could help me out here
Thankyou

You have to have remained in the country of issuance for three months after getting the license in order to convert it. You are out of luck.

How long you have lived there before you get a license is irrelevant.

You must live in the country where you get your license for three months after you get your license or you can't convert it.

I doubt you can convert a learner's permit anyway, but if you will be physically present in Australia for three months from the time you got it until you depart for Japan, maybe you can try it. When did you get the L license?
