Conjugating "-shii" verb?

Are these verbs, or adjectives...? I don't know!?

楽しい (normal tence)
楽しくない (don't want)
楽しかった (past tence)

?? Is that right? What are the rules for changing these um.. type of words. I only know those three... it would be nice to be able to use these type of words correctly cuz they are important for expression, are they not?

What si the meaning when you change it to 楽しみ 楽しさ? "-mi" is like.. noun type? enjoyment/amusement, sadness, lonliness?

嬉しい (ureshii) 楽しい (tanoshii) 寂しい (samishii) 難しい (muzukashii)

I can't help you much about Japanese grammar, because I've never really studied it. I just speak the language!

楽しくない (don't want)

This isn't quite right. The words you listed are i-adjectives which can be conjugated almost like verbs, but work a bit differently. If you remove the final -i and add "-kunai", you've formed the negative form of those adjectives. "楽しくない" means "not enjoyable" or "not fun". "-takunai" only translates into "I don't want" when you add it to verbs.

Example: 遊ぶ, asobu.

First form the "-masu" form: 遊びます
Get rid of the "-masu" 遊び
Add "-takunai" and you've got
遊びたくない, which means "I don't want to play".

Dont' want to enjoy/have fun 楽しみたくありません。 (Verb = tanoshimu, not adjective tanoshii).

For the other "ii" adjectives, lonely, happy, sad you mention the basic rule is to first add it to a verb, such as naru, suru, omou, etc and conjugate that with takunai, tte ita or whatever depending on what you're trying to say and how explicit you're needing to be. I second mikecash on the notion of a textbook, by the way.

You could, but you would need to make the verb 痛む a noun (which would be 痛み) then the を, etc. You might hear/say something like 痛みを与える.

Wanting to know the difference? What's the difference between sleep and slumber? Just two ways to say the same thing. I'm sure there's some ridiculously long story on where the two words came from, but having both the kanjis makes way for various compound words.

I think on a really subtle note, 寝る doesn't require unconsiousness, where 眠る does. Don't quote me on that though.

Being much less common outside of compounds, 眠る is likely to be less colloquial-sounding than 寝る as well....making your conversations about Sleeping Beauty, for instance, correctly 眠れる美女, not 寝れる。
