Um, no I don't think so. We had lots of intellectual discussions about finding and (possibly) recreating the original dish with the Japanese palate in mind.
In regards to your picture, yes I'm sure this lunch/dinner is pretty tasty, don't get me wrong.
I'm a Sushi fan too. I haven't compared between Japanese sushi and America sushi. But I know, there are many different things between the two.

Generally, there is no comparison between the two countries' sushi, but there are exceptions. A restaurant called "Samurai" in the French Quarter of New Orleans simply blew us away when we tried it about ten years ago.
