って話を進めるから。

まず、他人の間違いと書きたかったんですけど。永島が日本語について話していると間違いを起こるかどうかわかりません。

それも、心の中に巣作らないでください。

英語の文の終わりにも、「個人としての意見であって、人や場合によって違うかも」とかが付加されるものがあるのですよ。 :sorry:

Although I do love "keigo" used even between friends (親しき仲にも礼儀あり）, I think that "hai" won't be used between friends--provided that they are young, male, and not overheard by anybody else. (I added the last condition because my husband and I taught our son to use -desu/-masu in public, even when speaking with close friends, and some of his friends do that, too.). But, I'm not sure whether this applies 100%. I feel that some guys will use "hai" casually, depending on their upbringing and of their friends. Since the Japanese language is heavily dependent on the relationship between persons, I'm sure people will tag along and speak politely to a person who prefers to speak that way, no matter how close they are. Such cases must be rare today and probably not nonexistent. Just my two cents.

He does! At my age, almost everyone in this forum are "young boys"! ::joyful:
I'm glued to my PC most of the time, so the Internet is the only way I get to hang out with people...

Relation to use "HAI" for
"SENSEI TO SEITO" A teacher and a student,
"SENPAI" TO "KOUHAI" A senior and a younger student
"TOSIUE TO TOSISITA" A person of an older person and younger person
"JOUSI TO BUKA" A boss and a subordinate

I do not use "HAI" among friendly friends.

And what then about 目下/ 後輩 /部下 to their 上司 / 目上 / 先輩 ? Goodness, I could go on and on....there are an infinite number of ways to use rank in the language aren't there ?

BTW, do teen male friends say "Hai" to each other often?

Where I come from 'never' in the form of "NEVER -- There, I said it!" usually means never. Had I known you would explode, I wouldn't have bothered.

In fact it has only snowed once here in los angles, I grew up in LA. Anyways, in the history of LA it has only snowed here once and that was in 1918. >_<

It also snowed here once in the late '80s, though it may have been very light. I remember a friend of mine was scared to death to drive his car.

But I think it's still acceptable to say that "it never snows in Los Angeles."

Hey, there was even a song titled "It Never Rains in California" by Albert Hammond and it rained cats and dogs here for weeks. Nobody demanded a change in the title.
