Child's Manga

Does anyone have any scans, or readable pictures of pages from a manga that would be made for a little child? I feel that this may be one of the only ways I'll be able to learn how to read it.

What is it about a manga intended for children that makes you think it would be easier to read?

Because I would get a good idea of what words I should be concerned with first, and overall, it would just help my reading.

I mean, hey, I didn't start off with Stephen King's when I was learning English.

I have a few children's books, in hiragana, katakana...but that doesn't mean I actually can understand ...still the most is like...what???what does that mean?

No, in general it doesn't work. That was my point.

I could scan some pages of pitaten of you like, but even though the theme may be intended for children, there's some annoying grammar in it

Well I'll go ahead and say it's not a good idea. Even if the manga is shounen or shoujo and have furigana instead of kanji, it still isn't that easy to read because they use a lot of informalities and phrases that you won't be able to recognize at a low level of understanding. It helps a bit with learning a new word or particle here or there, but not to where you see considerable improvement just by reading it.

On the other hand, anime/manga is where I learned a lot (most?) of the slang that I do know (recently started watching Japanese dramas, so there's that too). I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a complete beginner though.

Ah well... whether apparently it works or not, I still want to try it. In the two other languages I've learned, I've become a faster reader and comprehender of them by reading stories, articles, and other things. Besides, I've always been told quite the opposite. You become a better reader by.. well... reading books. =)
