How about handing guests a piece of paper when they come in? This would give them not only an explanation of the hotel's rules and facilities in a language they understand and with the politeness level they expect, but also a handy reference in case they forget, say, the breakfast ending time.

That would work too. The only thing which needs to be explained directly to the guests is a breakfast, cos when its not included in the rate it needs to be purchased either with reception the day before for 10 pounds or in the morning in the breakfast room but then the price is higher. its 12.95. Writing things down about the internet or check out time would deffo work well.

I was going out of my way to try and sound helpful while still giving my opinion on the issue at hand. I wrote out a long response so they would see it wasn't some spur of the moment response. I had no ill intent in my posts and have no idea how it was interpreted that way. I was simply trying to give advice based on my experiences. I know you didn't specifically point to any user but if you saw any issue with the way I addressed the issue please let me know as I don't want to present myself in a way that may seem condescending or unhelpful etc.

@OoTmaster certainly not in your first post, but I think you let yourself get dragged down into the muck a little by responding in kind to the OP's increasing negativity. I think whenever we feel attacked or insulted, the first instinct is to reciprocate. When I notice that urge, it's a good trigger to try non-complementary action instead. I didn't mean for anyone to feel called out; it's difficult to read tone from text posts so someone may post thinking they're being nothing but helpful but have it taken the wrong way. When the other participants turn negative it's difficult to keep everything from sliding that way which isn't very productive. It's not about taking the high road or having any claims to moral supremacy, just preventing the level of discourse from deteriorating further.
