I am not able to use the chatroom as the screen is blank with a small "x" in the top left corner. Why is that?

That's because you're browser needs a Java plug-in.

Luckily, one such plug-in can be obtained at http://www.java.com

I'd like to suggest again that the 'Chat' link at the top of the screen show 'Chat ' where n is the number of people in the room.

... but to be honest I probably wouldn't be there anyway.
