Ok, who has seen it?!

I went today, and I think it is one of the best movies I've ever seen, no kidding. Johnny Depp was fantastic, of course, and all the other actors as well. The special effects, the cinematography, everything was just great.

I don't think there's anything I could say that would do it justice.

Yes, I liked it that much!

So, who has seen it, and did you like it? If you've seen both the original(with Gene Wilder) and this version, which one do you like the best and why?

I just seen it as well, Oh goodness I love Johnny Depp! He came up with his own version of Willie Wonka and for that, I must give him credit. I happened to like both versions. But the newest one is funnier, and the dance sequences are just wonderful. So as of now, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite movies.

I loved the original, it's one of my all-time favorites actually. Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka still stands out in my mind today as being ahead of his time. Looking forward to seeing Tim Burton's take on it although I keep hearing about the uncanny similarities between Depp's Wonka and Michael Jackson (eccentric apparel, manner of speech, the factory being synonomous with a glorified Neverland, etc...). Still, once it is eventually released here I definitely plan on being the first in line.

Hahah... that's just wrong. Seriously though, until I see the film for myself I won't draw any conclusions. What do those of you who have seen the film think about the presumptions people are making re: similarities between the two? Are they in fact legit or does it not even come across as such onscreen? I never read the novel although I understand Willy Wonka was a pretty anti-social type who didn't even really like kids, heh.

Oohh I cant wait to go and see it, even though I watched it numerous times as a child, as I got older it bothered me. However I love Johnny Depp and im sure that I can sit through a couple of hours of it .
Reminds me I once tried to keep my gum behind my ear... not recommended, especially if you have long hair. See what movies do to kids?????

kyaaa I can't wait to see it now - people seem to like it! I love Depp too, and he's a really good actor in this movie, I've heard.. (and in all other movies he's done also)

I was a little apprehensive about seeing another remake, but it was pretty good. I loved the original with Gene Wilder when I was a kid, so I thought it might be kind of sacriligious to go see the new one, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Johnny Depp was great and the new Umpa Lumpas were a laugh. The story was different from the original, which was also refreshing.

Saw the movie yesterday and thought it was a hoot and a half! Johnny Depp was cool as a decidedly wacky Willy Wonka. A real treat to watch, just like the original!

Mildly off topic.
Roald Dahl hated the original movie with Gene Wilder "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and that's why he refused the producers/directors the rights to the sequel Charlie and the great glass elevator.

Roald Dahl was reportedly so angry with the treatment of his book (mainly stemming from the massive rewrite by David Seltzer) that he refused permission for the book's sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, to be filmed. Seltzer had an idea for a new sequel, but legal issues meant that it never got off the ground.

I find it funny that Roald Dahl's orgignal choice to play Wonka was Spike Milligan yet the plumped for Wilder. (So similar! )

I saw it at the weekend and thought it was great. Co-incidently I was around my brother house before I went to the cinema and he was watching the original

I love the way that Charlie seems to live in a country that is a cross between the US and the UK.
I think I will forgive Burton for Planet of the Apes now I have seen this.

Yea, I saw the new version and I really liked it. It made me laugh and Depp is perfect for this role. But Oompa Loompa were wicked

I haven't seen it, I'm quite poor so I refuse to pay 5,000en to go to the movie theatre--- I've been waiting to gasp, procure it from the internet, but I've been putting it off---- Mainly the gf wants to see it. I'm quite a fan of the original, except not so much all the singing and the dancing---- In fact, I really don't like the original so much at all when I think about it with the exception of Gene Wilder, and neither did Depp or Burton, so maybe I'll like this version----

It certainly is a movie that is about an excentric older man who takes an interest in children... okay, we've worn out this joke!

they are both wonderful and crazy....so random and unlike anything else
AND they have shoet little orange men with green hair
and i would just like everybody to imagine something....clear your mind and try to picture what i am about to tell you....oompa loompa vampires!!! they will run at you while singing "Oompa Loompa do pa de do, I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD!" and then leap at you (the midgets they are) and attach to your neck drinking your blood.
