Following up on KrazyKat's comment - you have to rephrase things in Japanese because of the lack of a verb "to miss":
きみがいなくて淋しいです。 (Kimi ga inakute sabishii / samishii desu) literarally means "I'm lonely when you're not here."
Anyone know when to pronounce 淋しい as sabishii and when to use samishii? I always thought samishii was a girly thing, but I'm not so sure.

Regarding "sabishii" and "samishii", I think you can interchange them in any situation. No gender issue involved. The only reason for choosing one over the other may be phonetic fluidity--that's about it.
