Buying Stuff

I was curious in Tokyo and Kyoto where the best places would be to buy Japanese Baseball cards.. and used Japanese PS2 games and a Japanse PS2 system.

There are just so many cool Japanese baseball games that I want to buy that arent over here in the USA


I am very excited about this trip too, it my honeymoon trip, and my fiance and I met because of Japanese intrests too

Well in Tokyo theres Akihabara, Electric Town. You can find all your gaming needs there.

Dont expect to get any fantastic deals though, especially if your japanese language skills are nonexistant. But definitely theyll have used PS2 systems games - just stay out of the soul-crushing hentai-game section and you'll be fine.

I don't know of any baseball card shops in Tokyo or Kyoto (I'm sure there are tons though), but you can buy packs of Japanese baseball cards at most convenience stores. Look for Calbee brand potato chips too, they have a special "Yakyuu" bag that has a baseball card attached (they along with BBM are the main producers of Japanese baseball cards).

Thank you for the responses. We are having a Japanese travel guide with us on a tour. So I figure he could help me get a good price on a PS2 and some games.

I can't wait to buy some packs of cards, id really be interested to see how big baseball is over there.

You may want to try the Broadway mall near the Nakano (Tokyo) train station. They have a lot of collectible stores on the upper floors and I seem to remember seeing baseball cards there.

The other place I was looking for is somewhere that sells the plastic food shown in windows. Are any of those around Tokyo?

I don't know when you will travel around here, but if it is around early August, I highly recommend that you should see the summer high school baseball tournament at Koshien Baseball Studium in Hyogo.

It is hard to tell which baseball fan is the most enthusiastic, but it must be interesting to see the umbrella dance of Tokyo Yakult Swallows or ballon fights of many stadiums.

Thank you Hiroyuki I will have to check that out when I am over in Japan. I think its neat to buy plastic replicas of food.

Pipokun, unfortunatly I will be in Japan next April, but fortunatly it should be durring the cherry blossoms. But my travel agent is currently working with me to get tickets to a Japanese baseball game. Should be really fun, I enjoy the likes of Igawa, Ichiro, Matsui (both), and I even liked Shinjo when he played over here.

Its pervasive, and in places you'd least expect. Alot of video/video-game stores have the common sense to put the stuff on seperate floors, but others dont have the luxory of space. I mean dont get me wrong, its cute the first couple of times you see it and laugh w/ your travel partner - but then it just gets. . .ugh.

Despite all that, Akihabara is really a trip. Ive spent hours trolling around there, desperately wanting to buy every slick piece of electronic that I saw.

Kappabashi. Which you can reach off the Ginza line (as well as hit up Akihabara). Now this IS a fun place to visit (although some plastic food makes me less inclined to eat it), and an easy place to shop for gifts - who DOESNT want a plastic mug of beer???
