Buggy "Forum Activeness Statistics"

The "Forum Activeness Statistics" portion on the profile page is quite nice to see where a person is most active, but it has a major flaw: it also counts the posts of the forums where posts aren't counted, like e.g. the Chit chat forum
This totally distorts the posting statistics and sometimes produces totally nonsensical and utterly ridiculous messages like this:
Total Posts: 867
EscaFlowne is most active in the forum Chit Chat & Miscellaneous with a total of 1037 posts contributing to 119.61% of their total posts.
119.61% of the total posts!?

Now that really sounds totally retarded
It would be great if you could fix it so that it ignores the forums where posts aren't counted.
(Besides that, "of their total posts" really sounds weird "of all posts" would be much better.)

most of the time it does ignore that bit, otherwise mine would read i was most active in chit chat, which is prolly where 1/3 of all my posts are.

the "of their total posts" is correct. if it just said "of all posts" then one would think all posts in the forum, which is over 90000 now. its "their" becuase we're talking about their posts, not anyone elses. "his/her" could be substitued but there isnt any reason since "their" is neutral.

Whatever happened to this little bit of insight, the awareness statistics, by the way ? Has it just been downgraded for the time being or taken out entirely ?

It must have gone to virtual limbo during the recent upgrade. Since it wasn't exactly flawless, we are not going to reimplement it for the time being.

That isn't the only thing that got screwed in the upgrade. The forum seems to be slower, and it doesn't update new posts like it used to, not to mention that it doesn't mark read threads as read anymore. Also, whenever I get a PM notice and then search new posts and come back to the main page, it tells me that I have a new PM, even if I've already read it.

Objection, your honour! Permit me to say so, but I don't have the impression that anything got "screwed up" in the last upgrade.

Not to add a buggy hack hardly qualifies as a screw-up. If the forum appears to be slower at times, it might be related to the number of guests online, in particular Google and MSN spiders, or to your internet connection. Posts are updated as usual, images uploaded to the galleries are counted as post, only posts in the Chit-Chat section are exempted from being counted. I have however noticed the PM bug you described, but that's an issue the developers at Jelsoft have to deal with.

However, I appreciate your feedback.

Well, I guess it just seemed that way to me because I liked it better the way it was before. Eh, I just noticed that you responded before I edited, too. Oh well. I guess that that may mean that this next question is based on a wrong assumption as well, but here goes anyway.

I had thought that as well, but I remember times when there were 130 people online and the forum was as fast as when there were 30. Also, I'm not really sure why my internet connection would slow down, unless there is high traffic on the provider's server, because it's cable. I even kept checking to make sure that Kazaa wasn't running. Would the number of Google Spiders slow down the connection more than just having members and guests?

I'm having slow downs too. Sometimes it would just take very long to load or something. I think it's more of the toll the server's taking rather than the forum software.

As far as I know, the marking of new posts is a standard feature and should still be available.

Actually, heavy indexing by Google can slow servers down significantly. On the other hand, we webmasters LOVE Google and can't get enough of its eager critter, lolol.

As a matter of fact, the server is purring like a pussy, no reboot since 50 days, top loads of 0.50.

Well there's some stuff I could check from this side of the server ;-)

I was also quite involved in the run-about last time around although that was a rather different situation to now. In some ways it would make sense to say "sod it" and leave the encoding 'officially' Western European - leaving all the text in &nnnnnn; type form in the source.

The two problems with that are, IMO,
1. &nnnnn; takes up a lot more bytes than 'proper' Japanese encoding.
2. Some combinations of browser and OS apparently couldn't cope with it.
