Bringing a US-spec LCD TV to Japan

I am moving back to Tokyo and I have a LCD TV ( Samsung 32" 550 to be specific ). If you are from the USA, did you bring your LCD TV to Japan? If so, were you able to watch TV via Cable in Japan? For the regular LCD monitors, there is no issue; but, I am not sure about the LCD TV.

Since Japan has not fully gone over to digital, I'd suggest selling your TV there and getting a new one that is guaranteed to work.

Those TVs weren't even around when I came to Japan.

Are we talking digital? If you want a digital signal, then you will most likely need a separate tuner box for the Japanese signal. Other than that the tv will work fine...but I'd be wary of the shipping. I'd hate to ship it this far only to have it damaged en route.

I brought my american LCD to Japan over a year ago. it is 32in. (I think, but kankenai) and a Sony.

I have no problems at all. I usually use it as a monitor for my computer.

Used to have Sky perfect TV and it worked just fine. I canceled the tv service because I am working and not watching it ever.

I am not sure if its worth brining it over. Even if you loose some money by selling it in the US and buying one in Japan it might be cheaper considering the transportation and maybe custom fees.

Not many people I am aware of use cable. You will need a convertor box anyway because Japan has different broadcasting standards, B-CAS card is required for all transmissions, OTA, cable, or otherwise. (think cablecard or that directv card)
