Normally this would be ume blooming time, not sakura! I assume something's way of whack this year? Or do they have a new early blooming sakura hybrid now?We visited Yushima Tenmangu yesterday. The cherry blossoms were spectacular. And it's only February!

You got that wrong! Ume was about two weeks ago.
I know there are sakura species blooming as early as December (yamazakura, I believe), but this year things seem to be a little premature. Two days ago, temperatures in Oita reached 24.3 centigrades!
