A Takashi Miike film I have watched recently and I highly recommend it to everyone. Not a gore fest, as some Takashi films can be, instead it relies on humour and a touching story line. Bought mine from Hong Kong on ebay (Damn useful site for foriegn films), as it not available on region 2 for Europe. I don't know if it is available in North America.

He is by far the best at creating strange movies, why change. Occasionally i need such things. Many people make normal films.

i watched it two years ago, it is a really good story, and still a little starnge, i was expecting something weird to happen like the audition, that movie started out so quiet...

If you want some crazy action packed bloodbath Miike movies I suggest
Fudoh:The New Generations
Dead or Alive
and
IZO (if all you want is blood and samuari blades cutting into human flesh-not much else to Miike's latest offering)

Although not a Mikke movie, I really liked Versus . I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
That movies was awesome and action packed with lots of blood.

If you want some art house really cool movies check out a guy by the name of Shinya Tsukamoto. He is brilliant and his style is immediately recognizable.

I must say I loved this movie. It really has everything.. And I laughed my *** off a couple of times.. At the always so angry yakuza-man, and when the door fell off and then came the steeringwheel.

 

[Iron Chef]

A little off-topic but I actually met Tomoro Taguchi ("Tetsuo") in Yubari during the Fantastic Adventure Film Festival in 1998 when I was working there as a cultural liason/reporter. Great guy, very personable and approachable. He got quite the kick when I told him he had a cult following in the States for his Iron Man work, heh. He made it quite clear though that he wasn't too proud of that particular role and was more concerned about doing more legitimate work in order to make a name for himself. Nevertheless, a nice enough chap imho even if he doesn't think too highly of his own movies.
