Becoming Embarrassed or shy

Hi Guys,
If I was trying to say, sometimes I become embarrassed/Shy when speaking would I use 間に grammar?

my attempt。

時々私は話している間に恥ずかしいになる

I think と works better here -- 時々（私は）話していると恥ずかしくなる。

恥ずかしいになる is not grammatically correct in Standard Japanese.

Thanks Glenn. Could you please explain the grammar of と in that sentence? It means when in this case but is that because it is after a verb? or could you use after an adjective?
例えば うれしいと －－－when happy?

I believe it can be used after any predicative (verbs, adjectives, copulas).

と is considered a kind of conditional, incidentally. It's often used for a habit.
