Bucko said:A quick question, are there other ways to greet someone and ask how they are rather than 「こんにちは、お元気ですか」? In English we have a heap of ways, some more formal than others, to greet someone, e.g. "hey, how's it going?", "hey, what's up?", "what's goin on?".
Yeah, people don't ask お元気ですか? in Japanese like you do in English. It's used more when you haven't seen someone in a while. I hear things like, オッス、ウッス、ウィッス or even ヨー a lot. These would be like saying, "hey" or "yo". I've heard that 調子はどう? or どうしてる? can mean something like, "how's it going?" I'm not 100% sure on this though.
Also, a short form of こんにちは is こんちは.
