Whats the best program for making 468x60 website banners? I use photoshop CS2 but they always come out with huge file sizes. Any ideas?

I use CS2 as well and save my banners a jpeg -- they're not that big...and to reduce the file size just reduce the quality...that's what the small file size basically is.

I use Paint Shop Pro Photo XI and it is best for me, it can get any job done.

If you want to animate things.....

a company called ULEAD makes an easy to use program called GIF Animator5. I use it to work my animated avatars over with. If dumb ol me can do it, anyone can.

^never heard about that one. For my animations I use Paint Schop Pro™ to make images and for the actual animation I use Jasc Animation Shop 3™ and Animation Workshop™.

thanks for your help guys. I'll keep trying a few things till I find what I like. I havn't attempted animated ones yet I gotta get on that.

Photoshop has a ton of tricks for reducing filesize, but its companion, ImageReady, is specifically intended for files that will be published to the web. There should also be several online tutorials explaining how to minimize filesize in ImageReady.

I use PS7, but do try 'save for web' you can reduce the filesize, by reducing quality and such through that.

I think the Save for Web in Photoshop is about as good as you are going to get, isn't it? Pixels take up memory and if you are too ambitious with your animations, then the change information will simply add up. I made a 468x60 banner in photoshop recently, complete with animations, and it came out to be a grand total of 20k.

With Paint Shop Pro you can just reduce the file size just before savin' the pic without losin' any visible quality to it. It can easily change a 100kb image to a 10kb image without anyone bein' able to notice...and PSP is a lot cheaper to.

To reduce the file size of animated images you best use Animation Workshop...it also decreases the imagesize immensely without losin' quality, it's an option called supercompress and can also be done just before savin' the image/animation.
