Hey my fellow Japan lovers :)
I thought about this for quite a while now and I can't let go of the idea to discover Japan with a simple resilient bycicle^^ I mean of course not every mile with a bycicle.. but most of it!

What do you guys think about this idea and do you believe it's safe and possible to do?
Or do you believe it is much better to use the common railways and other means of transportation. I will go to Japan with my working holiday visum if you wanna know.

Then of course, there is also the question on what kind of luggage (Backpack) I should step into the airplane. I didn't had a pleasant experience with my Backpack over in Australia.. but if I really want to do it with a simple Bycicle, I have no choice but to take a Backpack.

Or would you say leave it and take a trolly with you and just use the more common mean of transportation around Japan :)
Regards
Ty

There are a lot of bicycle enthusiasts in Japan, both Japanese and foreign. There are those close to JREF who can give you tips!

Tokyo Cycling Club

A friend of my kids is one and biked his way from Tokyo to Shikoku and back. I think he's done all of Japan by now.

Thanks guys :)

I see it's nothing special to discover Japan on a little bicycle^^ The only thing I am worried about is the danger of getting hurt.. by all the traffic and so. But I will definitely cycle some of these beautiful roads.

I cycled some parts of Japan. The freeways are scary! For a lot of the highways, there are smaller farming roads that parallel, making it safer. I never had trouble. Take a medium sized backpack, and install saddlebag baskets on the back of the bike. Those can carry food and water, as well as other supplies.

He hasn't visited this site since January 26th. I'm afraid he won't see your message.
