Some friends and I are working on an ancient history-web site project, where we plan to deal with all sort of ncient cultures窶ｦso far we have completed the latin section and are working on the greek, egyptian and chineese ones窶ｦI was wondering if there was anyone interested in participating, who is keen on ancient japaneese history窶ｦthe web site is 100% amateurish, so in the case someone窶冱 interested be free to take all the time you want

Ancient Japan really isn't an ancient civilization of note - to tell the honest truth. In addition to the major ones - Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Shang China, Greece and Rome are really the major, major ones. Japan did have some ancient cultures worthy of some note - like the Jomon, but do you really wanna make a whole section on Ancient Japan? I suggest just writing about it in China. Or is it a requirement?

For a start, you could say that there is not much but prehistory until the 6th century AD. Small kingdoms start to form around the Kinki (Kansai) region in the 6 and 7th century, then become unified by the Yamato clan, which establish its first permanent capital in Heijokyo (now Nara) in 710. The capital is subsequently moved to Heiankyo (now Kyoto ) in 794. You can really start from there, but I wouldn't call it Antiquity by Western standards, as it is already well into the Middle Ages in Europe.

Yes. The reason I said there was no Japanese ancient history was because if caesar is talking about Egyptian/Greek/Roman ancient history, then Japan was just a land of barbarians. Japanese ancient history per se, as maciamo noted, was well into the Middle Ages in Europe.

ours isn't really a big project...I thought it would have been interesting to cover also other cultures which are not so well-known to many...

There must have been some kingdoms and their culture in ancient Japan. Indeed we can find many anciant sites like huge tumuluses throughout this country.
but, we dont know a lot because Japan had no writing until Chinese characters were imported in probably 5th century. so We learn about ancient Japan only through Chinese literatures and ancient remains, similer to the way we can do about ancient Celt or German...

That's true - but these tombs, of course - were part of the cultures already mentioned. If there were any true ancient Japanese cultures during the time of Rome and Greece - these are not knownt oday.
