American electronics in japan

I will be in japan this summer, and i was thinking of bringing my ipod and my laptop. as i understand, japan's electrical system is different on the east and west side of the island, but either way its slightly less powerful. How will my electronics work? Anything I should know?

Yes, the voltage is 100V in Japan, which is lower than 120V in U.S. You should check the range the AC adapter supports for your PC. Basically Apple or IBM products are just fine. Don't know much about Dell machines.

The sticker on the AC adapter for my HP laptop says "Input: 100 - 240V ~ 2.2A 50-60Hz".

I would imagine that most other laptops and their AC adapters work in this range as well, so you shouldn't have a problem using your laptop in Japan.

Both should be fine. The only possible difference would be time for recharging...it may take longer. Especially if you are in one of the areas that use 100V 50Hz Electricity. Either way you should be ok.

How about the prongs for the AC adaptor? Some of US-spec laptop has a 2-prong unit (with unequal length, meaning one of the prongs is a little wider than the other) and a 3-prong unit (which comes with a ground prong). Does it work without bringing an adaptor to use it in Japan? Most of the mobile computer and electronic gadgets are rated 100 V to 220V and 50 to 60 Hz, which automatically adjust themselves within those ranges.
