Last week, eight US servicemen, some of whom were stationed in Yokota, were killed when their V-22 Osprey crashed into the sea off Yakushima. Japan, particularly sensitive to locals' worries about military operations, slammed the US for continuing to fly Ospreys despite their request to ground the aircraft. Finally, last Wednesday, the United States was grounding all Ospreys.

"Preliminary investigation information indicates a potential materiel failure caused the mishap, but the underlying cause of the failure is unknown at this time," US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) said in a statement.

You have to admit, it's a cool looking aircraft.
