In Kore-eda's thought-provoking vision; the newly deceased find themselves in a way station somewhere between Heaven and Earth. With the help of dedicated caseworkers, each soul is given three days to choose one cherished memory for their life that they will relive for eternity. As the film reveals, recognizing happiness and finding a life's worth of meaning in a single event is no simple task.

Good movie!!!

i saw that movie.. it is truly touching.... great cinema...

I have that movie on Video also. Bought it about 3 years ago. Very touching and an interesting look into one artists rendering of the afterlife.

But...

...isn't life is more like an online multiplayer game? Where if you die and didn't finish your goal, you got respawn (a.k.a. reincarnated), loose a few experience points and so on, start again with the cycle keep continuing until you complete your goal and move on to the next level?

Of course, having memories of multiple lifetimes is too much handle on this level, maybe oin the next one, the experiences point would be added later on.

I remember the "Star Trek: Voyager'"'s episode "Flesh and Blood", where a bunch of holograms kept getting killed multiple times, and remember all of their deaths! That must have been really painful, to be getting killed and remembering all of the experiences.

As for reliving a single cherished memory for eternity.

Three days to find a way to spend in a single infinity loop forever?

Wouldn't it be more like a torture than a delight?

Nah... Life and the after life has much more compasion than that.

After Life...

this movie has been rated for many years as one of the best movies from japan. its an old movie now.

I tghly enjoyed this movie. It was my fave for a couple years.
Maybe still is?
I was told that of all the newly dead interviewed some of them
were actresses/actors and some of them were real people(not acting).
It was obvious to my Sensei and a Japanese friend.
Being a non-native speaker and not very skilled either,
I didn't know the difference.

yeah, my belief about life is much like that... I've read part of a book by Dr. Brian Weiss' "Same Soul, Many Bodies" that life is all about love and we have the same souls that lives inside our bodies today that may be in another's body in the future --you could be male/female, fat/thin, short/tall --I think these varieties will help us experience life to the fullest bcoz we learn and experience how it feels to be a female or male, etc... and the book tells about that our souls might be destined to go back here on earth or be in other places (or what Dr. Weiss called other schools where we learn and experience life and love, etc.) in case, we need to learn and absorb more things from life before we can commune and be one with the Source/God (whatever you want to call it) where we came from...

so, much mysteries about life out here or there that is worth exploring... and yeah, carpe diem,,, live life to the fullest coz it's a whole lot great experience and gift that's been bestowed upon us (IMO)

I saw this movie at movie festival several years ago here in Brisbane.
The theatre was full, but luckily, I could get in.
I felt warm after I saw this movie.
That young man, after so many years being stuck there, could finally go to heaven. :cracker:

I saw this movie for the first time recently. I saw it in blockbuster and watched it. It was really nice and it made me think. "What memory would I want to remember over and over for eternity?"

It's kind of hard to think about it and once you choose your memory you're stuck with it... But if you think about it, since that will be the only thing you'll be remembering you really wouldn't regret that you chose it. Or rather, you can't regret it. hmm...
