acted, played or performed

Which verb would be appropriate for the blank, acted, played or performed?
The actress ______________ the role of Snow Queen in the movie.

I think "played" and "performed" are perfectly fine.
"acted the role" sounds odd to me but if you Google it, it seems to be in widespread use.
