About The Bank Statement, How Much?

Greetings,

I was wondering how much (at least) do I need to have in the bank account in order to study a year in an intensive-japanese course? (what's the standard number in a bank statement?).


I am planning to stay at a friend's apartment temporarily, so if I tell them I won't be paying the full rent price for accomidation, will they lower the amount needed in my bank statement?

This really depends from many things, like your nationality ad example.
Also it depends on the school as well. There are schools which are very strict on the bank statement and they require 20,000$ plus. In general for a student from America or Europe 10,000$ will be enough.

I am going to ditch the 1 year intensive course idea for now, and will do a 3 months short-term course and see the life in Japan if it suits me or not.
