I paste here a my question from another forum for suggestions.
I state that I finished taking a N4 course in a Japanese school (located in Europe), using a series of books from the Hoepli publishing house and the Tae Kim.
Here the text:
<< I would like to ask you some questions about the self-taught study that I will have to do. Hope you can help me. Thanks.
1) This book: Mimi kara oboeru N4 Bunpou (from what you say: "Great for those who are willing to work a little harder to get more"). From what I understand it is full Japanese (and a little English). Do you think you can understand and study, I mean for a beginner? Does it serve to review or add new information to what I have already studied?
2) Does Mimi kara oboeru N4 Bunpou or in any case the other grammar books also have the correction of the exercises? As a self-taught I would also need to understand if the exercises I do are right so as to understand if I understood.
3) The vocabulary, reading and listening books, what are they for? I mean, if I use online or print resources other than these, isn't that okay? Do these books have something more? Are they structured in any particular way?
I do so:
- For listening I like to hear the news in the language (even if I don't understand anything), a bit YouTube in
Japanese, a little bit the films in language.
- For the readings I found some sites on the net that make stories available, from the more
simple to more complex ones as well as newspapers (even here I don't understand anything but I like them
very, very much)
- For the words I also found some sites here (iKnow! and
Vocab by Usefulness - Kanshudo) ->

take a look and then give me some feedback, especially on translations that are correct. Thanks
4) In another old post in which I asked you if there was a "general grammar" you suggested the book "A Handbook of japanese grammar patterns for teachers and learners" as one of the most complete resources or the book "Donna Toki Dou Tsukau Nihongo Hyogen Bunkei Jiten (Dictionary of Japanese Expressions and Grammar for Everyday Use) ". Can these two books go as alternatives to the aforementioned Mimi kara oboeru Bunpou, also for future levels N3, 2, 1 or are they separate books?
5) Technical-temporal question: I can devote 2-3 hours a day to the study of Japanese, from Monday to Friday and Sunday even the whole day. With these times and obviously personal commitment, in your opinion, how much are you able to finish the texts cited? (true that it depends from person to person but in your opinion, in general how long it could take?)
