A Japanese view on video game violance

In America video game violance has become an increasingly big issue. As a gamer I think there is a major difference between video games and reality and all people should know this.

Jack Thompson is one of the bad guys of this issue. Recently he had an interview with someone and he started blaming Japan for all the video game violance and pornography

Here are some direct quotes from the interview:

Insensitive? What the Japanese are doing to our kids is insensitive and racist. The Japanese have for a very long time dumped pornography into this country in a fashion they would not tolerate in their own country. It is another version of Pearl Harbor.

GTA is a Sony/Take-Two game. It was made by Take-Two exclusively for Sony's Playstation 2. Sony has led the planet in the distribution of mainstream porn. I don't have time to document it for you. As for the offensiveness of the Pearl Harbor comment, it's accurate and it's needed. The Japanese have a contempt for our culture which is patent. There (sic) dumping of garbage into our culture is a slow motion version of Pearl Harbor.

I feel this is completely inacurate and there is really no one to blame for anything. Wrongly blaming an entire country isn't going to help anything and in my eyes there are no problems with video game violance and pornography.

So my question to you is; As a Japanese person living in Japan. What are your views on Video Game violance? Do you think it's actually a problem? Do you think that there is anyone to blame for this? and what do you think about Jack Thompson?

Yeah, he's a *****. These people are all over the place. Putting blame on the Japanese for violence (and pornography?) of all things is not only baseless, but stupid. He always seems like he forgot to take his Ritalin.

you can't really take anything Mr Thompson says as the view of Americans or even as the view of concerned American puritan christian parents. Even they are abandoning him and his inane ramblings.

He is the largest public joke in America today. The village idiot, let loose by the white house to make Bush look like a genius.

My opinion of Jack Thompson is that it seems he's just looking for someone to point his finger at. I mean I don't understand why he would even try to blame the Japanese on why there's violent video games and porn in this culture.

and sheesh, who on earth is still thinking about pearl harbor? come on, Americans must by now have done something worse (trying to sound neutral, so as not to be like him).

Besides, american kids are buying those things of free will.

Created in America by American People manufactured somewhere else. Also the same people who created Manhunt. Where did the first ultra violent game come from? Not Japan.
Japanese porn blurrs out the lower region naughty bits. Why would I want blurred "vertical smiles" and "wangs" from Japanese porn When I can get visible taco and hot dog from American and other non-japan nation porn? I never DID like that aspect of Japanese Pornography.

What about What America is doing to American kids? Little to no effort in having any educational standards. We're so low on education averages around the world. And we are worrying about? Porn? Also, I'm sorry to say that contempt for other cultures is what America does to a certain degree, as is the case with this Jack-me-offer Thompson. Every nation has racists. America has been Pearl Harbor-ing other nations for years.

P.P.S. On a less serious note, "do you wanna play Pearl Harbor"? Has anybody ever heard someone say this before? What the heck does that mean, anyways?

Don't get me started on Jack Thompson! *coughjackasscough*

Anyways, there are people going around trying to ban violent video games, just because some mentally disturbed person can't tell the diff between Reality and video games and shoots everyone. I have been playing violent vid games for years and years, and not once did I think of going outside too steal cars, pick up hookers and kill them for my money back, or go on a shooting spree. People would already have to be mentally unstable to do that.

Some people want to take violent video games off the market. Well if you do, don't forget to take the News off the air, all movies with any trace of violence or sexual innuendos. Stop taking your kids to school, since they learn most of that stuff from school. Get rid of many great novels that include those topics. As a matter of fact, let's get rid of cars, since cars can get into accidents and show a hint of violence and blood. (I know, EXTREME, isn't it?)

people just want the satisfaction of being able to blame others or (some object) if things aren't going their way.

I agree that violent Vids like GTA and God of War etc.. need to be rated according to their nature (which means a certain age can purchase a certain game), and that kids shouldn't be playing those games. But that's the parents job to make sure that doesn't happen.
