Hi,

I bumped up into this phrase:

一緒に映画を見に行かない

even though I got the gist of the phrase I was struck by 見に as I have never come across that form:

the pre-masu form(i-form) of 見る + the particle に + the negative form of 行く
(in this case, probably used as a negative interrogative for invitation)

The i form also has some uses on its own, such as:

To express purpose, with に ni: 食べに行きました tabe ni ikimashita: "I went there to eat".

でしょうか or 行きませんか？ are polite and formal.

For the non-friend:

一緒に映画を見に行っていただけないでしょ うか？

もし暇だったら映画でも行きませんか？



Direct and simple:

映画（を見に）行かない？
映画（を見に）行こうよ？
じゃあ、映画（でも）行く？
映画見よう?

映画（を）見に行きたいけど。。。一緒にどう？

JFYI, in conversation, 見に行かない/見に行く MUST be pronounced with the rising intonation for an invitation, or the sentence means "I don't go see/I go see~."

一緒に飲みに行きませんか？ is correct. ～ましょうか is generally used for "to do something for you," as in 手伝いましょうか？ or "Can I help you?"

So ～ましょうか is more consistent with 一杯おごらせてよ。 一杯、ご馳走させていただけますか？ hahaha.


In my experience, there's is no difference with 緒に飲みに行きませんか？v. ～ましょうか but I never considered it in the context of "helping" or "doing" either.

No. I meant 飲みに行きましょうか？ with rising intonation sounds like 飲みに行ってあげましょうか？ When said with falling intonation, 飲みに行きましょうか is more close to 飲みに行きましょう or "let's go out for a drink."
