三 「さん」, three
add another one to two.

王 「おう」 , king, monarch
add another one to three, connecting heaven and earth in 二, with a full 十 power, that is the 王。

I'd like to mention that this is a very interesting thread to follow dispite the fact that I could never partake in it myself... but the fact that you guys post not only the kana for the kanji but also a translation makes it a very interesting read for any of us beginners

Also, I am very impressed by you all

Well, if you wanted to cheat... I could show you a way. (Not that I do, of course. I'm only going off of memory; I swear!)

What do mean by cheating? That was not part of the deal, I don't think.
I don't speak any Japanese, and I just hope to pick up some by playing this game.
But always WITH a dictionary or two. Is that a problem ?
And if it were, could you stop me ?

I don't have a problem with you using one; I just don't want to use one for myself. I also didn't want to give the impression that I was using one to generate new kanji. Well, I lied a bit: I do use one sometimes to get all of the readings, as they can be quite plentiful from time to time, or to confirm that I have the right readings. But as far as selecting a new kanji in the string, I go strictly by memory. I figure it's better for my brain excercise that way. So, by cheating I meant to use a dictionary to find a new kanji with one of the radicals from the previous one. But I'm only holding myself to that standard of not "cheating." ;-)

嫌 「ケン、きら・い、きら・う、いや」 - dislike

女 probably shouldn't be in there, though, right?
I know my personal emotion has nothing to do with language, but I dread the thought of political correctness encroaching upon kanji. Written language is a convention that shouldn't need any purifying. I was genuinely surprised that there are people infuenced by Western ideas of political rectitude to the degree of purging kanji as well.

Just so you know, I edited the message so that it is now much clearer that there is a link there. I wasn't sure whether everyone would be able to see it, because it was so small.
