Hey guys, could you help me, please?

旅行 = trip. So, I thought if I added a SURU at the ending of it it'd transform into a verb, am I right?


Here's my sentence:

この週末に旅行する。 -> I'll travel this weekend.

Another question, if you don't mind.

If I wanted to say: "I'll travel this weekend to Rio de Janeiro." would this be like:

この週末へリオ デ ジャネイロに旅行する.

You're right, it can be made to a verb with する.

Your first sentence sounds fine, but the second is slightly off. Just swap the places of へ and に and that should be it. So it would be この週末にリオデジャネイロへ旅行する。

Personally, I prefer using 旅行に行く and 今週末, though. I'd say 今週末はリオデジャネイロへ旅行に行く. Google seems to agree with me because this kind of sentences come up with much more hits than "旅行する" used in a similar way.

I've learned Japanese mostly by speaking though so you might want to wait until someone comes and explains you the precise grammatical rules using all the fancy grammatical terms, though, since I'm quite oblivious to those.

旅行に行く puts more focus on "to go to trip", whereas 旅行する can have a nuance of "to travel around" especially when used with を. For instance, when you already came to Sao Paulo from Japan, and you're going to go to Rio de Janeiro this weekend, you can use 今週末はリオデジャネイロを旅行する but hardly use 今週末はリオデジャネイロに旅行に行く, since you already 旅行に来ている.

Google seems to agree with me because this kind of sentences come up with much more hits than "旅行する" used in a similar way.

This is indeed an effecitive way to search whether the form/structure is actually used, but you also need to pay attention to whether there might be a difference in use between them. My two cents.;-)

A small point but when I saw この週末 I thought it sounded like someone was perhaps pointing to a calender and indicating that's the time you'll be traveling, when I would normally say 今週末 to indicate this upcoming weekend. Toritoribe is there a preference or even a nuance there?

この週末 usually refers to "this (upcoming) weekend" as same as 今週末. I would use この週の週末 for what nice gaijin-san wrote.
