召すas an euphemism to "to die" and "を前に主のもとへ"

In this small post by a japanese priest living here in my country:

[ジョタカの朋友ヴェント
イースターを前に主のもとへ
４月１４日、９時４０分２００３年から一緒に暮らしていた愛犬ヴェントが召されました。ぽっかり心に穴があいてしまいました。
ヴェント（ラブラドルオス）
２００３年３月２７日に生まれ、２０１４年４月１４日召される。]

Is "召す" here being used as a synonym of "being summoned by god/ to ascend/ die"

And in "イースターを前に主のもとへ", being "easter" the object, does it mean that "returned easter to its main meaning/state"?

I'm translating as the following:

[My companion in JK(thats the name of the place, even though its in katakana), Bento
Has returned easter to its original meaning.
My dear pet, who lived with me since ~, has been "summoned"(died). Lightly A hole has been opened in my heart
Bento, a male labrador, born in ２００３年３月２７日, dead in ２０１４年４月１４日]

Am I right or did I miss something?

Yes, implied is something like 天に召された or 神に召された (in English sometimes people say "called to heaven" with the same meaning).

I think perhaps he meant イースターの前に主のもとへ (主 is "Lord" here)
e.g. "before Easter, (gone) to the Lord"

Being this "Lord", should one still read it as "omo" ?

that particle ～を～ do you think it was a typo, and he meant "no" instead?

It's not a typo. イースターを前に主のもとへ means イースターを前にして主のもとへ. This expression can be used both temporally and spatially just like "before" in English.
e.g.
観光シーズンを前に住民が「大原大掃除」不法投棄ごみ一掃
五十六回目の原爆記念日を前に、広島平和記念資料館では、企画展〈サダコと折り鶴〉が開幕しました。
庭のすみまでくまなく埋め尽くした武士たちを前に政子は口を開いた。
アジア欧州会議の財務相会議で参加国の国旗を前にあいさつする宮沢喜一財務相

Hum, this is really interesting, even though, done this way "を前に" still means "before the easter" right? Is it somehow more formal than just saying "no mae ni"?
