1. What does the word 亀裂 have to do with turtles? Or is 亀 just for the sound value?


2. 「そ、そりゃ・・・俺もずっと飼っておけんぐらいのこ とはわかっとる。だけんどほっぽり出すなんてことはで きん。どうしてもできん。」

a) Is おけん = おけない, neg. potential of おく (置く)?

b) Is だけんど some dialect form of だけど?


3. 土曜日の真夜中、一番高い塔にリッジバックを連れてこ れるかい？

Is これる potential of 来る? Is this casual for 来られる?

Oh, by the way, does ～ん for ～ない have any connotations of rough speech or rural speech or anything like that, or is it simply informal?

Sounds like someone old would say if they use it consistently. However, can be used for more emphasis in casual speech.

ん is the spoken version of ぬ.

In some dialects it is also consistently used but it's definitely not 標準語.

Is おく in this 飼っておけん the "do X in advance" or the "continuing state" one? My guess is the latter, but I feel like I didn't even know that was a version of it until just now.

Yes, it's the latter one "その状態を続けさせる。そのままにする。". You can see an adverb ずっと there.;-)
