こんにちは皆さん、
私は夢十夜と申すの物語を読んでいる。
この文法がよくわかりません。

1。

真白な頬の底に温かい血の色がほどよく差して、唇の色 は無論赤い how does ほどよく modify the sentence?

Does it just put emphasize on 差して?

i.e...

The lower part of her pure white cheeks were tinged brilliantly with a colour like warm blood and her lips were naturally red ?

2。

とうてい死にそうには見えない。しかし女は静かな声で 、もう死にますとはっきり云った. does とうてい mean can't possibly in a negative sentence?

i.e

She can't possibly be dead as she doesn't appear so. however the woman asks in a clear soft voice "am I already dead"?

よろしくお願いします

1. Yes, it modifies the following verb. It's close to "moderately" but with a positive meaning - ほどよい is like "just right" (as in Goldilocks + porridge)

2. もう死にます is not "am I already dead" , and is not a question but a statement: "I am going to (soon) die". She does not at all look like she is going to die, but she still says "I am going to die."
